Bornier
Open source EtherCAT slaves for machine tools running LinuxCNC: hardware, firmware and tooling.
Where it stands
Design phase: nothing to buy or run yet. The schematic of the base board is complete and checked; the PCB layout comes next. The firmware builds and runs on a development board, without the EtherCAT stack yet.
What it will be
- One generic base board per EtherCAT slave: 4 step/dir drive ports, 4 encoder inputs, a fast probe input, spindle control (0-10 V, PWM) and an isolated Modbus port.
- Slow I/O on DIN-rail extension modules, chained to the base board by ribbon cable.
- Standard EtherCAT, developed against LinuxCNC and the IgH master. Firmware updates over the bus.
- Everything published: KiCad projects, firmware, tools. E-stop and STO stay hardwired.
